IBM has invested ten million dollars in a virtual universe community that has twelve private islands where you attend public events and learn about IBM products.

Reuters opened a news bureau publishing text, photo and video news. They even interview real life people in their metaverse studio.

Showtime’s the L Word is now an island in Second Life, with a detailed re-creation of the Planet and the nightclub familiar to so many fans.

The Sundance Channel pulled off a coup with the first-ever screening of a feature film in Second Life™. “Four Eyed Monsters” premiered to a sold-out group, who following the screening had a Q & A with the filmmakers on Sundance Channel Island.

MTV offers Virtual Laguna Beach, where fans of its show, “Laguna Beach: The Real O.C.,” can hang-out in their faux setting.

Big Brother brings reality television to Second Life™. The popular reality TV show selected 15 Second Life contestants in three time zones, and contestants had to spend at least eight hours a day in the transparent virtual Big Brother house for a total of one month. Their fate will be decided by other Second Life residents, who will vote on which contestants will be allowed to stay.

Other companies like Xerox, Nissan, Adidas, Toyota, Dell Warner Bros., Reebok, Audi, Microsoft, Sears, Circuit City, and more have set-up virtual business centers where you can actually sample and purchase products both in Second Life™ and in real life.
